I am genetically predisposed to being an artist and I can prove it. Great-great-grandfather Rossi, RA, sculpted the memorial statues of war heroes at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. So it was, if you like, etched in stone! To put it in perspective, that was in the time of Turner, and since then the family has taken to writing - we breed authors - always have. I think it fair game that,
in search of individual recognition, I should have diverged and embarked upon a career as an artist. Aptitude tests suggest I should have become a diplomat, lobbyist, or psychiatrist - but I stuck to my dna fate - there were far less regulations. And besides, I was never much cop at terminal degrees! Gratefully, I have been able to teach a little along the way, which has furnished my supplies. As for a bio, the basics are, childhood in England, art school and gap year, (several), canal boats, wine buying, and then traveling the world as a designer/export rep, until I met my husband who brought me to the US and saved me from brussel sprouts. Antiques imported from China and Europe followed, and advisory boards for refugees in the Sudan, Band-Aid, Live-Aid and other worthy causes - then university and crop circles and more university, and children to raise and people to teach what little I had come to know.
My work has been featured at various venues, including the Dallas World Trade Center, The Four Seasons Resort, Ambari, the Jacques Lamy Gallery, IBC, the Cushing Gallery and the Irving Art Center. Overseas it can be found in small collections in England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and who knows if the guy from Chile who bought a canvas ever took it home with him? There were occasional mentions in Parade Magazine, D Magazine and various Texas newspapers. I have elicited some recognition by way of awards from Asel Art, Guerrilla, UNT and TWU, VAST, Voertman’s, YWCA and the Women’s Museum, and from my husband and children - plus a few friends who have been kind enough to humor me by buying the odd painting. Thank you, and I hope we can repeat the exercise! If I can be your artist, I promise you can be my cpa/md/obgyn/bmi etc....
I work in many different media and styles, all of which has been a bit of a disadvantage in a world where one is expected to cleave to one type of work alone. It did shatter my confidence once upon a time, but accumulating years don’t leave room for those kind of burdens - so I dumped them. Besides, I am multi-lingual, and it doesn’t seem to impede my powers of speech. If your cold case files determine you need to know more about me, then by all means, ask.
Sincerely, Angela
